When you think about how women in our country are still second class citizens after all these years- women are still earning less than men. Childcare is still underpaid. Men can still pay off women they’ve slept with and become a president because the GOP cares only about money and power – we can still see some improvements over other countries.
Women in China who haven’t married by age 25 are called “Leftover Women” and are considered flawed and outcasts. Recently “leftover women” did an art installation in the “Marriage Market”. Ok, hope you didn’t just eat a meal because you might get nauseous.
The Marriage Market is a place families visit to find suitable wives for their sons. The women (under 25 of course) or their families basically write an “ad” with no pics, describing their daughters looking for a mate.
You might not be able to click on the video of the event- but it’s worth it to go to DailyGood.com and watch it. Yes, it will make you a little sick, but also, you will admire these brave women who are putting themselves out there to say I’m not second rate, I’m not flawed, I’m a valuable person.
Please also remember in this tough holiday season that you are a person and you have value. We don’t tell each other enough but it’s true.

Leftover Women Take Over the Marriage Market
In China, a woman who is unmarried by age 25 is considered a “leftover woman.” She feels like an outsider, and in a culture with great respect for parents, she may feel like a failure. A group of such women went to the Marriage Market and put up large photos of themselves, and messages like “don’t give up love for suitability” or expressing the wish not to marry.
